About Us

UCentral is the student media network of the University of Central Oklahoma, featuring the student television newscast NewsCentral; the campus radio station, ed90.1; the campus newspaper, The Vista; and the converged website, UCO360.com. UCentral is located within the Mass Communication Building on the campus of UCO. It provides hands-on, real-world experience for mass communication majors.

UCentral originally began as KCSU-TV in 1976. In 2006, the television station underwent major renovation and digital equipment upgrades to include a state-of-the-art control room and studio. UCentral television features on-going programs such as NewsCentral, the student run newscast and The Huddle, a weekly football highlight program during the fall.

In the summer of 2009, broadcast operations and The Vista, UCO’s campus newspaper converged under the umbrella of UCentral – UCO’s Student Media Network, to prepare students for the future of multimedia journalism. Not only was this convergence “physical” by combining the two newsrooms into one, it also converged “virtually” by melding the websites of the newspaper and TV station to create the new internet-based news medium UCO360.COM.

In addition to UCO360.COM, UCentral believes social networking is crucial to the future of multimedia journalism. Students can “fan” UCentral on facebook
