The University of Central Oklahoma Career Service offices are open and ready to counsel students on how to achieve the perfect internship and job for their future.

The Career Service office offers resume critique and career advice from a licensed career counselor.

The last student will be seen at 4:20 p.m. For all other days, students are encouraged to set an appointment.

They have information regarding how to write a resume, cover letter and where students can apply.

“If students are unsure about their major or need career advice, they can stop by our offices,” Clint McKnight, career counselor said. “We offer a variety of services to help.

We are here to help assess career options, resume critique and mock interviews.”

Students have the option to register to HireBronchos, a 12-month service.

HireBronchos allows students to create a e-portfolio to obtain an internship or employment.

This registration program allows students to put their resume, cover letters, transcripts, certifications and other achievements in a online portfolio for intern and employment recruiters to view.

This also allows students to have 24-hour access to their account to either apply or view possible intern and employment opportunities.

This program allows students to sign up for interviews being held on campus from recruiter visiting campus as well.

The counselors are ready to show step-by-step how to write a resume and cover letters.

They also can critique and recommend changes that will help further your resume.
“A common mistake students make on their resume is the use of pronouns,” McKnight said. “You shouldn’t say me, we or I on a resume. There are a variety of resume templates, and depending on the job the employer might want a certain style.”

McKnight said that the average employer takes five seconds to look at one resume, and if it does not have what they are looking for it will only be discarded.

McKnight said that students can e-mail their resume to careers@uco.edu if they can’t stop by.

McKnight said that this help commuters who don’t have time to stop by their offices, it only take two to three day process.

“Ninety-five percent of our services are free,” McKnight said. “Students should take advantage of it.”

The internship and e-portfolio registration is free for students.
The full-time employment registration is $20 for current students and $30 for former UCO

Students also have access to the Career Service Web site, where students can view event calendars, career assessments and a career-planning strategy.

The career assessment can help students who are undecided with their major or career to find what really fits them.

“We explain what the assessment exams really mean,” McKnight said. “We take a look at the combination of things and explain what it means and how it fits them.”
